Recently, Stanford University School of Medicine found that the contents of a diluted solution of bleach has the ability to reverse inflammation and aging skin. Researchers mixed a small percentage of household bleach in a bath solution for mice and two weeks later they appeared younger and showed improvements in existing skin damage. The inexpensive solution that is used to clean our kitchens and bathroom can hopefully return youthful skin for humans.
People have been flirting with this idea for years, some have even used diluted bleach to correct moderate and severe cases of eczema, but it is still unclear how the solution functions. However, Agein Corporation, experts of anti-aging, reports that bleach is a highly corrosive and dangerous topical solution.
Using the household bleach product in place of traditionally approved anti-aging products is capable of withering top layers of skin, lungs and eyes with excessive contact and inhalation.
Stanford researchers claimed that the diluted bleach solution can one day treat people with skin damage from excessive sun exposure, radiation therapy and extreme living conditions.

Everyone knows the damage smoking can do to the lungs and cardiovascular system, but how much does aging affect our looks? A recent study published in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, reports a comparison of twins that shows smoking makes aging signs appear on the face faster than non-smokers.
The most common chemicals in cigarette smoke are tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide. There are about 7,000 other chemicals identified in cigarettes, including 70 constituents that are likely to influence lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema. Now the new study puts smoking in a whole other category we are all concerned about, aging.
Visible Aging Signs
Researchers at Case Western Reserve University observed 79 sets of twins to compare the effects of smoking on each of their faces. A professional photographer took their picture at the August Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. From there the pictures were sent to the university for three trained judges to grade each person’s age-related facial features, without prior knowledge of the smoker and non-smoker.
The first group of photos were of 45 sets of twins, including one who smoked and the other who did not. The latter group consisted of each twin who did smoke, but in each set, one twin smoked at least five years longer than the other.
The first group was evaluated and the judges declared the smoking twin appeared older 57 percent of the time. In the second group, the twin who smoked longer was classified as the older one 63 percent of the time, which means that aging differences settle in on a person’s face after a minimum of five years.
Looking at other aging skin factors, such as alcohol consumption, stress and sunscreen usage, the results were similar in the twins.
How Cigarette Smoke Ages Skin
The study confirmed that every smoking twin displayed a difference in aging compared to the non-smoker or the one who quit smoking sooner. Twins who smoked for more years had more pronounced bags under their eyes and wrinkles around their lower lips. It also proves that no matter what the age of the smoker, facial features become older in appearance faster than expected.
Cigarettes reduce collagen formation and as a result, collagen degradation in the face accelerates and reduces skin circulation. The nicotine also influences the skin to lose thickness, all while reducing skin elasticity. As a result, the smoker is affected by premature aging.
This study is evidence that proves the dangers of smoking and its effects on facial structure. It also serves as the source why plastic surgeons suggest to quit smoking ahead of facelift and other cosmetic surgeries, as smoking will not help maintain long-lasting, youthful skin.
Smoking influences aging skin to occur without warning. The twins study proves that the longer an individual continues to smoke increases the likelihood of baggy under eyes, wrinkles and more pronounced jowls. Our skin is the largest human organ. It covers our entire body and battles the elements for our entire lives. It is amazingly durable, but eventually is starts to break down. The wear effects it and it becomes less and less elastic and durable. Fine lines, creases, wrinkles and sagging begin to take the place of smooth, tight skin, particularly in the face and neck. With Boston Injectable Dermal Fillers, Dr. LoVerme can take out some of those fine lines, creases, and wrinkles to create a smoother, more youthful looking appearance yet again.
Injectable Fillers are just as they sound, “fillers” that get injected into your skin to fill out the creases and wrinkles. It’s basically playing the part that your natural, good fat was playing that gets lost as we age. There are a couple different kind of injectable fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm. Dr. LoVerme will walk you through the pros and cons of each and help you find the right treatment for you. Injectable fillers are perfect for patients who desire a more youthful appearance without the risks of invasive surgery and constrictive down time.

Our skin faces every outside environment that exists in the world daily. It comes into contact with everything and while our bodies naturally shed and regrow layers of skin, Microdermabrasion can help regenerate our skin by encouraging it to increase elasticity and collagen production. Microdermabrasion can be used on almost any area of your body. To learn more contact our office and schedule a consultation!
For those unhappy with their mid-sections, a Tummy Tuck procedure may be the best option in achieving the results you desire. There are many reasons which can contribute to abdominal dissatisfaction. Oftentimes the effects of pregnancy or weight loss can leave people with excess sagging, hanging skin. What’s more is abdominal muscles which have become loose or separated, which also happens frequently in pregnancy, and can cause an abdomen to appear distended. Diet and exercise alone cannot improve a distended abdomen caused from loose or separated abdominal muscles or loose, sagging skin, but a Boston Abdominoplasty can improve these conditions.
Boston based, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. LoVerme has helped many men and women achieve a more contoured waist through Abdomioplasty, also known as a Tummy Tuck procedure. If you are ready to begin seriously exploring your options for a better, more contoured midsection, contact our office today to schedule your consultation.

There are several reasons a person may choose to undergo Chin Augmentation. Some may feel that their jaw line is too undefined and needs a stronger or more delicate definition, others may notice that their small chin is causing an uneven balance, causing their noses to either appear larger or smaller than they actually are. In any case, the symmetry and balance that is desired is lacking due to congenital deficiencies, bone absorption due to do aging, facial trauma or simply a hereditary trait.
The Chin Augmentation procedure is relatively standard and can even be done in office. Some people choose to have it done in conjuncture with a Rhinoplasty or Facelift to insure a certain balance. Contact our office to schedule your consultation to find out if a Chin Augmentation is right for you.
Rhinoplasty can improve a number of nose issues, both aesthetic and functional. Many men and women are dissatisfied with their noses for one reasons or another. Some find the nose too large or too small in relation to the rest of their facial features, others have bumps or indentations or are unhappy with the size or shape of their nostrils. Some men and women have a difficult time breathing through their noses due to structural issues. All of these problems can be addressed through Rhinoplasty.
If you are interested in learning more about the Rhinoplasty, or Nose Surgery procedure, we invite you to contact our office to schedule a consultation and to find out if a Rhinoplasty may be right for you.
