Eyebrow Wellesley - Forehead Lift Boston
A high arched eyebrow is a sign of youth and can highlight your eyes and draw attention to them. Deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines between the eyes, drooping eyebrows and hood-like skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you are or feel. Whether age or heredity causes these conditions, a forehead lift (or brow lift) can give you a more youthful, animated and alert appearance.
Slight changes in the height of your eyebrows can have major effects on your apparent age and remarkable affect on how your eyes appear. Many women pluck or wax their eyebrows in order to change the height of their brow. A sagging eyebrow can hood your eyelids, draw attention away from your eyes, and is more typical of the male brow.
A forehead or brow lift can smooth out the wrinkles and correct drooping brows and heavy lids to provide a younger and friendlier and more feminine appearance. A brow lift can be combined with eyelid surgery, facelift or laser resurfacing for the best results.
The Surgery
Dr. LoVerme usually performs the brow lift procedure through very small incisions placed behind the hairline so that the scars are most often not visible at all. The entire forehead is lifted so that the eyebrows may rest in a more natural position and alleviate the tired look. The skin and muscle is tightened to give a fresher, more youthful appearance. If wrinkles or frown lines are your main concern rather than just drooping at the eyelid area, then an endoscope is used to remove selected muscles which cause wrinkles. The endoscope is a long thin tube with a light on the end which is attached to a video camera. It allows Dr. LoVerme to see the internal structure without making visible incisions. This removal of muscle is a more permanent solution than injection of Botox which is often also used to minimize wrinkles in this area. The removal of muscle causing furrows between the eyes can often also be performed through eyelid incisions if a full browlift is not needed.
For patients with a high hairline, a combination of techniques may be used. A scar may be placed at the hairline in order to minimize the appearance of the high forehead while the endoscope may be inserted to visualize the internal structures and minimize wrinkles and frown lines. This surgery can most often be performed with local anesthesia and sedation in our private, certified surgical facility or in a hospital setting. Either way you will be able to return home the same day.
THE RECOVERY
A bandage or compression wrap is generally placed over your forehead or entire head for a few days. After surgery there will be some temporary swelling and discoloration or bruising that may involve the eyelids and lower portions of the face as well. By the third day you should be able to shampoo your hair gently. This lets you look and feel much better. The swelling also tends to start going away by the afternoon of the third day. Most patients have very little pain but plenty of pain relievers will be prescribed in case you need them. Just a few skin clips will be removed from behind the hairline at about ten days and you will be able to return to work. Most patients are able to resume their routine activities by two weeks and exercise at three weeks. You may notice some numbness in the forehead and scalp for several months. Most of our patients do not find this a major concern. Your improved look will be subtle to everyone but you. Many people say how well rested you look, or ask if you’ve changed your hairstyle. This procedure alone may make you look anywhere from five to ten years younger.
